I have laptop with Windows 7 and Office 2007.

No problems with updates till the last windows 7 sp1 and IE9 installation.

Since then - all the Office 2007 updates keep failing with error code 80070643.

I tried everything suggested by anyone... including clean boot... manual downloading... TFC.exe...  anything !!!

but.....

NOTHING WORKED

It is keeping failing again and again....

WHY ?

thanks

I had the same problem. Finally got it to install by

  1. download the fix
  2. started the cmd window  Start->Accessories->Command Prompt.
  3. cd to the directory the fix was in.
  4. ran the fix with the option extract:.    Office2007-kb2509488-fullfile-x86-glb.exe /extract:.

which extracts the contents to the current directory.

  1. ran the mso file that was extracted from the command prompt.  "Success"

Run the Fixit mentioned in the following article and check if it helps:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2258121

If the Fixit does not work, refer to the let me fix it myself section and follow the steps.

Take a look at the following article.

If you disable the Ose.exe file, Microsoft Office updates do not install when you use Microsoft Windows Server Update Services or the Microsoft Update Web site to deploy software updates and hotfixes to computers in the organization
