No problems with updates till the last windows 7 sp1 and IE9 installation.

Since then - all the Office 2007 updates keep failing with error code 80070643.

I tried everything suggested by anyone... including clean boot... manual downloading... TFC.exe...  anything !!!

but.....

NOTHING WORKED

It is keeping failing again and again....

WHY ?

thanks

I had the same problem. Finally got it to install by

  1. download the fix
  2. started the cmd window  Start->Accessories->Command Prompt.
  3. cd to the directory the fix was in.
  4. ran the fix with the option extract:.    Office2007-kb2509488-fullfile-x86-glb.exe /extract:.

which extracts the contents to the current directory.

  1. ran the mso file that was extracted from the command prompt.  "Success"

I have the identical problem and I have gone through the suggestion from the Windows tech team and nothing helped and they suggested I post this problem in the Office section.

Here is my original problem and the two replies:

    ORIGINAL QUESTION

Windows Update for KB2508958 for Windows 7 64Bit keeps failing

Applies To: Windows | Windows 7 | Windows Update

The auto update keeps wanting to make an update for what I believe is to do with Office 2007 but it keeps failing with Error Code 8007066F. I have used the Get help with this, but still no success.

    What am I to do?

    REPLY 1

Try downloading KB2508958 manually, save it, then configure the system to Clean boot, restart the system, right clickOffice2007-kb2508958-fullfile-x86-glb.exe, choose 'Run as administrator', and agree to the UAC prompt.

Update for Microsoft Office 2007 System (KB2508958)

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Although there does not appear to be one definitive answer that resolves the 8007066F error, if that did not get the update installed suggest you post to the Office 2007 forum for further assistance, Dane -http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007

    REPLY 2 (my reply)

I tried the process of downloading the file, doing a clean boot, and manually running the file.

The result I got was a message that states - "There are no products affected by this package installed on this system"

This troubles me for two reasons:

    1. Why would the autoaupdate provide this file if it was not needed?
    2. I do have all of the Microsfot Office 2007 programs on my system.

I guess the bottom line is - if I do not need this update how do I tell the auto update system to ignore it?

Try the fixit mentioned in the following article and check:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958052/en-us

If the fixit does not work, you may try to follow the steps manually.

You can also repair the Office installation.
