Changing multiple numbers to subscript at once?

I do freelance work and it requires me to use Microsoft Word 2007. I find myself spending a lot of time going through and changing numbers, one at a time, to superscript. Is there an easier way to do this, maybe using the find/replace tool?

A little more information, it is for chapters of a book. The reference numbers need to be made from just a regular number to superscript. The numbers in the text are normally sited like [reference number]. I am wondering if there is an easier way to change all of these at once, to increase the amount of time I spend on things for work that are actually important.

Is it too much to ask for you to fully define the scope of your request up front?

Use [([])] in find what.  All others remain the same.

And also, could you tell me how to do it if the numbers are surrounded by parenthesis?

Thank you so much Greg! Is there any way I could also remove the brackets just as easily? Like, within the same step?

Using Find & Replace with More>Use Wildcards, type:  [[0-9]@] in the find what box

Put your cursor in the Replace with field and type ^& then click More>Format>Font>Superscript

    Replace all.
