Unrecognized database format error???

Anonymous

I just downloaded Microsoft Access 2010. I am trying to open a database file that is a .mdb file and was sent to me on a CD-R.

There are 2 files on this disc and I have no issues opening one file, but keep getting the "Unrecognized database format" error even though it is an .mdb file.

What I am I missing here??? Thanks

    Your right, it is Access 2013 that can no longer open a Access 97 file.

    @Jack,

    You can open a Access 97 database in Access 2010.  You get an option to convert or nothing design wise is available and/or it will strip your code (on rare occassions).

    It could be that it is an Access 97 mdb, which cannot be openned by Access 2010.

    If you still get the message after copying it to your hard disk, it's possible that the .mdb file is corrupt. You may need to contact the source of the file and request a new copy.

    You'll also get this message if the file is in a newer format than your version of Access, but that is evidently not the case here since you're using 2010.

    First off, have you copied the file from the CD to your computer first.  You need to do so.
