The server couldn't complete this action. Error Code: 0x88ffc008

Question

Word says "The server couldn't complete this action. Error Code: 0x88ffc008" when I want to share a document.

1. It's 2014 -- why do we have 1960's vintage error messages?
2. WTF does this mean and what can I do about it?

Saved on SkyDrive (or OneDrive) in a machine not in a domain.

This error also occurs using Office 2016. When I try to share an Excel/Word/PowerPoint etc. document saved on OneDrive, I get this message:

“The server couldn't complete this action. Error Code: 0x803d0000”

However, this error doesn’t resolve by restarting Office. Also, I have no problem with sharing my OneNote notebooks.

This error does not occur if I share via an Internet browser (i.e. logging into OneDrive Online).

I agree.  I had a surface pro 4 that I wanted to use in the classroom, but it wouldn't write when projecting.  I returned it for a surface book.  Same issue.  I finally returned and went apple with iPad pro.  Works like a dream.  I am using it with onenote which I am loving, but again this one sticking point will be a deal breaker, I will leave one note and go to notability to deliver information to my students, because I can't share the notebook because of this message.  I will never come back to microsoft.  I swore this almost 10 years ago and tried the surface pro 4 because it looked amazing.  Now I remember why I switched to apple in the first place, microsoft just doesn't work.  If it did it would be great, but I can't share and I don't have time to "trouble shoot" or come up with a work around.  Apple works.  If it says it can do something like share then when I click share it shares.  Microsoft just gives me problems.  I wish one note would work...just had to vent.  Maybe microsoft would listen and roll out programs that work.

Microsoft is going to loose us to other programs if we keep getting :Error Code: 0x88ffc008" for no reason. I cant believe that this sharing has to be so hard.
