Blank window opens when embedding Excel Spreadsheet as Icon in Excel 2013

Help!

I am running Excel 2013. When embedding an Excel object into an Excel spreadsheet as an icon, a second, blank Excel spreadsheet opens in front of my main spreadsheet. If I close the blank spreadsheet, my working spreadsheet closes too.

Excel 2013 settings:

* Show the Start Screen when this application starts - UNCHECKED

* PERSONAL.XLSB exists in default location - YES

This happens regardless of whether I am inserting xls, xlsx, xlsm, or xlsb files. Other file types (doc(x,m), pdf, ppt(x,m), etc) insert without opening the blank window.

I have tried unhiding/hiding the PERSONAL.XLSB file, which didn't work. When this window appears, the embedded Excel spreadsheet is listed as a hidden file as well. I can unhide/hide this spreadsheet. Also, if I close my working spreadsheet, and look in the hidden windows, the object spreadsheet still appears in the hidden file list.

Thanks for anyone's help with this.

    Hi Nayana,

    Thanks for your reply.

Neither XLStart folder have any documents in them. I made sure to set up the view so hidden files and folders were visible - nothing.

Issue persists in Excel safe mode.

This issue is not occuring in Word or PowerPoint 2013.

    Thanks,

    Diane
