Error Code 1056-4 "Something went wrong"

Problem: None of my Office 365 programs will open. Got e rror "Something went wrong. We cannot open your program. Please try starting it again. If it won't start, try repairing Office from "Programs and Features" in Control Panel."

Did the "Fix Online," but got the error "We're sorry, but we are unable to start your program. Error Code: 1056-4."

Info: My Avast anti-virus updated today.

Please HELP!!!

UPDATE

It's fixed!

  1. RESTART your computer. This will engage an update (that you will not see happening). Give it five minutes, or so, and attempt to open any Office program (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  2. If the update is not finished it will alert you to try again later. Wait a minute or two and retry.
  3. If the up-date is finalized then you will be asked to install ClicktoRun (by Microsoft). Say YES and you're back in business!  Hooray!

    I've got the same problem today bro. Still trying to figure it out, it's got to be an attack of some kind never seen this before!

    I have the same problem, and previous messages show that several other people have also. Hopefully, there is a fix, though the one given in previous post does not seem to work. Very frustrating, as I am missing a day's work due to this problem! Please help if you find a fix. Thanks in advance.

    Seems funny this all happened on July 21, 2014 for all of us sounds like a virus to me. I have the same problems today.
