Office install error code 3-4

My computer did an auto download of 8.1.  Since then my office suite has not worked.  I have uninstalled the office program but I cannot re-install it.  I get the "something went wrong" message with error code: 3-4.  I have no idea how to eliminate these error codes or what they mean.  Any help out there would be appreciated.

    Thanks Paul,

I wish I could kill this thread as  I'm using the free Office Libre now, even though I paid for Office. It does everything I need. I feel like I've escaped the death star...  I doubt Office Libre will cost me anywhere near the valuable time I have lost trying to troubleshoot Office over the years...

    Hey Walter,

This is how you fix the problem from now on:

    1. Use the Fixit tool to uninstall Microsoft Office
    2. Download CCleaner, then click on the Registry button. Click on the Scan for Issues button, then click Fix all selected issues. This will clean all leftover Microsoft Office stuff from the registry for you. Repeat this step twice, then you should be able to install Microsoft Office again without any problems.

Hope this helps and please pass this information on. Thanks.

This solution worked perfectly. Thank you. At first i didn't remove the folder, but who knew that a folder would prevent an installation? It seems like the uninstallation or fix tool should have removed it. i had even contacted support and they were baffled and tried to charge me money to continue troubleshooting. i'm a techie and i can do it myself, even if i had to do a full OS reinstallation. Support is on some bs. i fixed it in far less time than they spent on it.

This did not solve the issue. Neither did rebooting (several times - after every new troubleshooting attempt), deleting history, or changing browsers. Any other suggestions?
