sync limits and multiple libraries

Question

I'm receiving an error message from OneDrive for Business indicating it can't sync the library because it's too large. I'm well under the 1TB limit and under 20,000 items. I've seen some posts suggest splitting the OneDrive library into multiple libraries will get around the 20,000 limit. Can't find anything in the help or online about creating multiple libraries, how do you create/use them/sync with OneDrive for Business?

Hi Alan,

If you have uploaded files to the new library, to view the files of the library on your PC, please sync the new library to your PC. To do that:

Open your OneDrive for Business library> Click the gear on the upper right corner> Select the Site contents> Find and open the new library> Click Sync to sync the files to your PC.

Moreover, the new library is created on your personal site, you need to access it via the Site contents above.

Can't even access the new library from OneDrive in a web browser. The new libraries only show up if I go through the "add an app" process

Hi Alan,

The 20000 items sync limitation in an OneDrive for Business library includes folders and files. You can refer to: Restrictions and limitations when you sync SharePoint libraries to your computer through OneDrive for Business.

To create multiple document libraries, we can go to our OneDrive for Business library > click the gear icon at the upper-right corner > Site contents > add an app > choose Document Library.

After doing the above, we can split the large number of items into several document libraries.
