Folder tabs cut off?

Tabs in excel are covered by the scroll bar. They appear fine when I startup but as soon as I click on a new folder the scroll bar pops up and covers all but the bottom of the tabs?

I have the same problem as MSH218.

If viewing the spreadsheet in full screen, yes, the worksheet tabs show.  However, then the very top title bar (that shows Excel menus, computer batter, date/time, etc. does not show.

    MacBook:  OSX Yosemite 10.10.3.

Bottom line:  in Excel 2011 for Mac (v. 14.3.9) I'm unable to view the worksheet tabs AND the top most title bar at the same time.  I've had the problem for at least 3 years.  I've tried the suggestions in this thread with no success.  Any other suggestions?

    Thank you!

I think I've figured out the issue.  All of my Excel docs are saved in the format of "Excel 97-2004 Workbook (.xls)".  Whenever I open those documents, the bottom worksheet tabs are hidden under the dock.  I've finally figured out that I can resize the window

    • just have to do that EVERY time I open the document.

If I re-save the document in the format of "Excel Workbook (.xlsx) ... then the document opens and everything is visible.

The main problem with the .xlsx format is I encounter people who say they can't open that format.

I can't believe I've been dealing with this for 3 years and only just came up with the solution!

With this update, the normal view does not show the tabs for the different worksheets.  When I click the little green circle at the top left to expand my window into full screen, they show up; which is fine, but I don't like the full screen.  I can't access my doc on my Mac while in full screen.  It is also a real problem when I need to go between different applications.  I have to minimize between switching applications and then expand to view the tabs.  This just isn't handy.  Is there a way to see the tabs for the many worksheets while in normal view and not in full screen view?

Even if I'm right in assuming that you're referring to worksheet [not folder] tabs, I'm afraid I can't reproduce or visualize what you're attempting to describe. The Scroll Bar is an integral component of the UI which cannot be repositioned (although it can be sized).

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "...click on a new folder". Are you selecting a different existing sheet? Inserting a new sheet?

Can you provide a screen shot or provide a shared file that illustrates the problem?

    Additionally, it might help to know;

    • your version of OS X
    • the present build level of your Preview installation
    • whether only certain files or all files are affected
    • any additional details you can provide
