"Not a valid folder" error mapping network drive to O365 SharePoint library

Split from this thread,

Hi Cliff,  I am also having this issue, but with a difference.  I have upgraded a clients laptop to Windows 10 prior to them receiving new ThinkPad laptops.  The upgrade from Win 7 Pro worked well and carried their Mapped SharePoint drives across and work well.  However, setting up the new laptops has been an issue with mapping the sharepoint drives.

I have followed all the suggested solutions above and keep getting both access denied and Invalid folder messages.

I have found that the Edge browser does not give you the ability to "Open with Explorer" but IE 11 does.  I can open the folders with explorer but cannot map the drive after this.

I have also used the "Connect to Office" function and "Connect to Outlook" function and I can see the Shared Documents library in File Open and File Save As, but cannot map the drive.

This is more important as they use 3rd Party software programs that require them to save generated documents to the Shared drive which cannot be seen in a non Microsoft application.  they also need to be able to save received files (PDF's) to the shared drive.  You can open the PDF's in Word and then do a Save As, but this is convoluted and messy.

I am setting them up with Win 10 Pro but need the mappings to work.  Amazingly the old upgraded machine just accepted the old mapped drives.  So I am thinking it is a permissioning issue.  Have dropped the UAC to first level, I don't want to switch it off completely for security reasons.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Regards

Ian T

hi lan t,

i’d like to confirm the information below:

1 since there are different root causes for the issue, could you provide us with some screenshots displaying error messages when mapping network drive to office 365 sharepoint library?

to upload some screenshots, please click use rich formatting and then click edit/insert media.

2 from your description, my understanding is that you can’t map network drive after upgrading your laptops to windows 10.

to narrow down the issue, could you tell me if you have checked all the details of the article?

furthermore, i suggest you follow the steps below to try a shot:

1  open the library in the explorer view first. open the map network drive wizard and paste the url of the explorer into the folder box to check the outcome.

the following additional settings may also be required if the issue still occurs after you open the library in explorer:

  1.   change the url from https://tenant-my.sharepoint.com/personal/user_domain_com/documents to \tenant-my.sharepoint.com\personal\user_domain_net\documents.
  2.  select connect using different credentials and enter your credentials again.
  3.  add @ssl to the url such as \tenant-my.sharepoint.com@ssl\personal\user_domain_net\documents.
  1.  clear the ie cache, close all ie processes.
  2.   then launch ie, log into spo, then try mapping the drive.

if the issue persists, i’d like to collect your office 365 account for further investigation.

to protect your privacy, i have sent a private message to collect the information. you can access the private message via the following steps:

  • go to the your details section on the right side of the community site.
  • click private messages
  • click the subject title of the response to the message.

thanks,

cliff

Thanks Cliff,  I think I have solved the issue.  It would appear that setting the "Advanced Internet options"  in IE 11 to use SSL 2.0 made the difference.  Shame we can't configure Edge browser to do the same thing in Win 10.  I am currently using 10547.

Thankyou for the prompt reply, it had been hard to find the right conversation that had all the settings attached.

    Kind regards

    Ian Templeton
