Stop using a shared subscription

I was a nominated user on someone else's Office 356 account. Their subscription has now expired.

I am entitled to a one year personal licence as part of the Lumia Deals when I purchased my Lumia 950XL

When I try to apply the code and check out, I get a notification telling me to go to my account page and stop using the shared subscription.

On my account page it tells me the name of the person whose account I am sharing, underneath it there is a hyper link saying "stop using this shared subscription".

I click on the link, a blank javascrip box pops up- nothing else happens.

I contacted a webchat agent, he logged into my PC. Tried doing what I had done, then he tried to do it in Firefox and Chrome, still nothing. Then MS called me. After 15 minutes of waiting on hold, he suggested that I hang up and call MS directly.

I spoke to an agent that was instant that it is impossible for me to unsubscribe myself. I asked what would happen if the person that sent me the subscription dies. Again he insisted that it is impossible to unsubscribe oneself.

I asked him why there is a hyper link in My Account. He didn't believe that such a link could exist until I read the exact wording to him. he then suggested that I use a different Wifi link and if that didn't work, try to access the link on my phone. His other really helpful advice was to stop using my MS account and set up a new one. I don't want to do that...

I tried using my Lumia 950XL- the javascript box pops up and remains blank.

Any suggestions? It has now been over 90 minutes since I first contacted Microsoft and I am still no further.

EDIT------------------

<a id="muxsharinglink_stopsharing" class="muxsharinglink_stopsharing" href="javascript:;" data-data="ovUYlQAAAAAAAAEA">Stop using this shared subscription</a>

the above is the code for the non-functioning link and looking at the HTML it is then supposed to say "You’ve stopped using a shared {0} subscription" and then warn me about losing my 1TB of onedrive space

Tried web chat again. Eventually they spoke to a colleague (possibly the one I had spoke to previously) and came back and said that it is not possible to unsubscribe yourself.

I did ask them about the hyperlink that is clearly visible in the above image. I was away form my Pc for a few minutes, came back and the conversation  had been terminated.

Can anyone confirm whether they have ever managed to unsubscribe without getting the account holder to unsubscribe them?

Other than the evidence of the hyperlink- I find it hard to believe that MS would not allow people to unsubscribe. I am in a position to contact the primary account holder- my girlfriend, but not until later- she is away at the moment and probably doesn't even know her password.

The situation is patently bonkers. If the main subscriber were to die (according to MS support agents) you would have to create a new account and lose your phone back ups, purchase history and so on.

I would lodge a complaint but I cannot find an email link anywhere and frankly do not want to waste another 30 minutes dealing with someone via webchat who is going to defer to the person that says that the hyperlink doesn't exist.

    Not happy...

Didn't make any difference, also tried incognito in Chrome.

Still just a blank box that displays nothing and sits there until I click away.

Try using a private browsing session of FireFox or IE
