Gmail Folder after migration

hello there,

we just did a migration from gmail and had been syncing our mailboxes via imap for a few days. after we deleted the migration batch we noticed that users still have a 'gmail' folder under their inbox. shouldn't all the mail be just inside the inbox? how does this 'gmail folder' relate to their 'inbox' and is it safe to delete?

Hi Biotechz,

After the mailbox is successfully migrated to Office 365 by IMAP migration, it is the expected behavior that we will get a separate folder for the migrated mailbox in Outlook Web App

If all the emails are migrated to Office 365 inbox or other folders successfully, you can delete the folder.

Let us know if you have other questions.

Thanks,

Robert

    Hi Biotechz,

    Thanks for the updates.

As I mentioned above, if the emails are migrated to Office 365 inbox or other folders successfully and then you manually drag the emails to the inbox folder, it might cause duplicates.

To find and delete the duplicate emails, we need to use Outlook desktop client (Outlook 2013/2016). To do it, click your inbox folder, in Home – deletesection, click Clean up – Clean up folder. Wait for a while and the duplicate emails will be deleted and you can find them in the deleted items folder.

In Outlook Web App, it is not feasible to find and delete the duplicate emails automatically, we need to find and delete them one by one. I understand it would be nice if we can find and delete the duplicate emails automatically in Outlook Web App as well. Therefore, I suggest you submit feedback about the feature via the link below:

    Robert

    Thanks Robert,

We had a few users already start to drag messages/conversations into their inbox (form Gmail folder). Will this create duplicates emails in their Inbox? If so, how can we ID them and delete them?

    Thanks so much.
