hi ron,
given the situation, the following are my understanding and answers.
- according to my test, if i insert a field in the word document via local word app and set it as the template for a document library, when clicking file>new document in document library, the field is visible but could not be edited in browser. it is an expected behavior since there are some features not supported when file is opened in word online. but it can be edited in local app. as you mentioned you insert quick parts filed from the library, if the above is not the case, could you share with us more details about how you insert them?
- though we can copy the link when clicking file>new document and create a new document button on another page, but it is a fake one since every link is different when clicking file>new document each time. therefore, it is not feasible to meet your requirement. as for opening the document in browser or local app, we can make choice as steps below:
a) go to the library where we set the template>click library>click library settings
b) click advanced settings under general settings part>choose open in the browser or open in the client application as below
- do you mean you want to use the person/group type of field in the template? you can share with us related screenshots for us better understanding your requirements. to upload screenshots, you can click use rich formatting at the bottom and then click the icon of insert media.
besides, it seems that you need to collect data by using the template, we suggest you give a shot to setting template in a form library. in this way, we can process and export the data easier. for details, you can refer to the two types of libraries that use file templates.
thanks,
echo
