PDF Preview add-on not installed

Hello everyone,

Recently I have upgraded from Outlook 2013 to Outlook 2016 using Office 365. Since then, I am no longer able to preview PDF files within the application.

Opening the files works without flaw using the Windows 10 Reader app. In the "Trust Centre" where one is able to specify which files can be previewed, there is no mention of PDF files.

What could be the cause of this issue? Searching the forum or the web I've not been able to find others having the same issue. Could this be due to a missing .dll file? If so, could placing the .dll file in the right directory be the sollution?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

    hi arcticwolf,

i have performed a test to preview a pdf files in outlook 2016, and it works.

also, i can find pdf preview handler in the trust center.

could you check if the outlook 2016 client is up to date?

above is the version of my test outlook 2016 client.

if the issue persists with the latest version, it is suggested you post the issue on our outlook client forum since our forum focuses on office 365 for business online services.

    thanks for your understanding.

    franky

I'm guessing that you have Adobe Reader (or another PDF viewer / writer) installed on your system that installs a previewer for Outlook.

I get so frustrated with Microsoft at times. I love Windows 10 & Office 2016... and now in Windows 10 we have a built-in PDF viewer finally (Edge). So, I don't really want to install Adobe Reader.

But it seems Microsoft didn't really think this through between their Windows 10 team and their Outlook team. My recommendation is to install Adobe (even though I don't personally want to do that). I'm not sure there is any default Microsoft solution.
