Syncing Sharepoint Documents to My Computer

I have a client who has an online sharepoint site. They are accustomed to using OneDrive to sync their sharepoint documents from the cloud to their computer. However, I'm having some issues finding the right OneDrive version to use. It looks like they have office 2016 installed through office 365. However, OneDrive wasn't installed so I installed the latest version which is One Drive for Business next generation. However, it seems that this version doesn't allow you to sync sharepoint libraries. I found the page below that tells me that I have to use "the previous one drive for business client sync" in order to be able to sync documents on sharepoint sites. I think I found the previous client that i need for this at the second link below. However, if I download this client and try to install it, office tells me that I have a newer version of office and I first need to uninstall the newer version before I install this version of one drive. I don't get it. If I'm supposed to use this version of One Drive in order to sync sharepoint, how am I supposed to install it on a computer running office 2016?

    hi bahige,

to sync sharepoint libraries to our computer, we can use the previous onedrive for business sync client(onedrive for business 2016 or 2013) which is included in office 365 proplus or office 365 business plan.

from you description, i noticed that you have office 2016 without onedrive for business installed on your computer. therefore, could you confirm the version of office 2016 you are using and share with us a screenshot about it as below? to check it, we can open word > file > account > product information.

Thanks for the response James. So in other words, if I want to be able to sync Sharepoint libraries to your computer using One Drive, you will need to use the previous OneDrive for business client sync which means I have to revert to office 2013?

    hi bahige,

since the "previous client" in the support article you provided is onedrive for businesss 2013 version, and according to this article office installed using click-to-run and window installer on same computer isn't supported, it can't coexist with office 2016 (click to run version).

you also can't have two different versions of click-to-run applications on the same computer. for example, you can't have office 2013 and office 2016 applications installed using click-to-run on the same computer. for more information, see "stop, you should wait to install office 2016" error.

given this situation, you can install onedrive for business 2016 separately following the workaround in this kb article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3098502 .

@javier, currently, the onedrive for business next generation sync client doesn't support sharepoint library syncing, this is still under development, for any updates, please follow our roadmap here: http://fasttrack.microsoft.com/roadmap (in development section)

I'm exactly in the same situation. There are is also an erratic behaviour of those 'cloud' signs: one blue, two blue, another  one white... personal, business... I see it very confusing. Now I have the New Generation, its syncing ok, but as you say I can't sync down shared content, neither just download it from the sharing people folder. Yo can only move or copy it... but in that person folder, not in your own 'Files' folder in OneDrive
