I have an alias to a file in Excel Startup folder which opens fine in Excel 2011 but throws an error in the new preview:

Is this a bug or is it not supported anymore?

Has anyone else noticed this behaviour? It only seems to happen with aliases in the startup folder. All other files are fine and aliases open normally when clicked or from file>open menu...

Just tried there and it seems it just happens on startup when opening files in the startup folder... I can open it fine otherwise.

Are you able to open the actual file?

Are you able to open excel alias files if they are not in startup? Like manually open them?
