Mouse problems with Excel 2016

When I am using Excel 2016, many times the mouse will suddenly fail to click anywhere in the spreadsheet.  I can't change the cell, or the tab, or anything inside the sheet.  I can click on the menu bar (enabling me to save), and sometimes quitting and restarting will fix it for a little while, but most of the time not.

This seems to happen most often when I am demonstrating something on an external monitor with HDMI.  I can't swear that's always the case, but it definitely happens then.

Any help would be appreciated!

I have seen this too. It has been reported, but it would not hurt to report it again. Use the smiley face in the upper right to send a frown. As far as a solution, you'll just have to wait and try each new version to see if it has been fixed.

Well, it's almost a year since your original post, and no solution.... I haver a great deal of trouble with the mouse click in Excel. I have to move the mouse out of the cell I'm working in, click on a cell far away from it several times, and then come back and try it again. it's really very frustrating and a complete productivity killer. So distracting and anxiety-provoking. I'm going to try asking the question again.

I found this solution here: http://ccm.net/forum/affich-75180-excel-and-keyboard-problems-on-a-mac

It worked for me on my mac:

try going to System preferences, keyboard, shortcuts and un-select ''the way Tab moves focus". Solved my Excel for MAC problem

Same problem here on 15.27 - makes it completely unworkable on the Mac.

The problem started when I started using Outlook on the Mac and if I close Outlook then restart Excel it works. (Outlook seems to cause a number of other issues too.)

Ensure all updates are installed on the Mac.

Do you face this issue in other Office apps?

Run the Disk Utility app that is located in your Applications/Utilities folder and Repair Permissions on your primary drive.
