Sharepoint Mapped Drives - Check Out Functionality

Hi,

We are starting to use Share Point and one of the things I have been able to do is map drives -which is great - however someone asked me about checking files out and in again.

Does the check out/in function disappear when you use mapped drives to a share point directory -  -or is there a way to incorporate the check out function, whilst using mapped drives.?

thanks

Paul

    Hello Paul!

    • Here is a way you can accomplish your goal of accessing files like mapping a drive WITHOUT the need to map a drive and take up one of your drive letters.
    • It's called adding your SharePoint library as a Favorite/Network location
      • You won't have to worry about the drive disconnecting all the time
      • It's super quick/easy
      • It doesn't use up one of your limited number of mapped drive letters
    • Take a look at my YouTube video which shows you exactly how to add any SharePoint document library as a favorite

How to add a SharePoint document library as a favorite in File Explorer

Please mark this as an answer if it solves your problem with mapped drives constantly disconnecting

Hi -Yes - the "Reconnect at Logon" tick box was automatically populated when you start to map a drive. My research so far shows that its possibly a security feature by design  -to disconnect the drive/deny access. It seems you have to manually remap the drive - and - log in to 365 after a reboot for the drive mapping to work. I am looking to see if there is any way to automate this at logon - as I would get lots of support calls every day, when the drive mapping drops after every re-boot.....thanks  Paul

Hi and thanks for getting back to me. We are looking to use mapped drives as it would be easier for the users. I understand that the checkout  function is only available via the website - thats fine -  however we notice that the mapped drives do not reconnect after a reboot. Is there any way of making the drive mappings persistent - and reconnect automatically after a reboot?  thanks

    Hi Paul,

We would still be able to check out/in files from the Library web page at the FILE ribbon when selecting one. Mapping network drive generally does not affect this feature.

Could you share more details on the situation so that we may look into it specifically?

Feel free to post back at any time.

    Best Regards,

    Rene
