Cannot delete “Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg”

I downloaded the Office 2016 installer package and ran it.  At the end, it says, close this window to continue configuration.  I click close and nothing happens but office seems to be working.  I can drag the pkg file to the trash but when I try to remove it from the trash, it says:

The operation can’t be completed because the item “Microsoft_Office_2016_Installer.pkg” is in use.

I am running El Capitan.  I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) with 8GB of RAM.  I have restarted numerous times and run an office update but still have the same problem.  I even tried installing again but same issue.

    Hi Justin,

    Regarding the issue, it seems to be related to the Mac system. You may try to remove the package via the link https://support.apple.com/en-us/TS1402. If the issue still exists, I suggest you find Apple support for help. Thanks for your understanding.
