OneDrive sync client install without admin rights

Hi,

I have just been reading through the blog post https://blog.onedrive.com/i-sync-therefore-i-am/ (30th Sept 2015) in which it states:

"Today we’re releasing a preview of our new OneDrive for Business sync client ..........

Updates to the new sync client will occur independently of Office and Windows updates and furthermore there is no need for users to have local administrative privileges for installation and updates."

Right now if I try and install the OneDrive consumer client or a preview version of the new client (from https://preview.onedrive.com/sync) I still appear to need admin rights.

So is the ability to install the new OneDrive sync client without requiring administrative privileges really going to happen, and if so when?

Thanks

Hi Matt,

Thanks for trying out the preview client. You are seeing this behavior as the client is still in the preview stage. Will share more information once the tool comes out from preview.

Note: I have no further information on the ETA. Please keep an eye on the official blog for the news.

    Hi Matt,

It will happen. But currently, we haven’t got the exact time frame about when it will happen.

To get an overview of the new functionalities that are rolling out in the near future, you may refer to the Office 365 roadmap. And to get the latest news about the updates in Office 365, we suggest you subscribe to the Office Blogs.

    Thanks for your understanding.
