ics invites

Some .ics invites that I get look like normal invites. Others have the .ics file as an attachment . This takes a great deal longer to get them into the calendar. This seems to only happen with my wife's account - She uses an iphoone  and iPad. The issue exists when she uses iCloud or Google Calendar. It seems to be that the email is FROM some long email and not here.. ie (*** Email address is removed for privacy ***).  What can I do to fix this..

Thanks.. Bill

Sorry the issue is the other way around. If my wife sends an invite from her iphone then i get the meeting as an attachment. I often get other invites that have 'ics' as an attachment and those go into the calendar automatically, just like any other invite.  So it feels like this is an Outlook issue. The only thing that seems to be different is that the 'send'er' when I get it from my wife does not look like her name and email.  It appears that Outlook does not like that and then only reads it as an attachment, not a meeting invite.

OK so I set up an Outlook.com system and then tried to integrate her iMAP email address to it.  It looks like only POP mail is supported.  You can import iMAP but then it does not sync. Even so it is now clear how I would point to Outlook.com using her earthlink.net iMAP mail which you said would be the way to fix this issue.

    Thanks... Bill

    hi bill,

it’s an expected behavior. if we send a meeting request from office 365 to an icloud mailbox, the iphone will automatically recognize this calendar item, then change this email to an .ics file.

i have done a test on my side and reproduced the scenario. see the following screenshot:

since this is an iphone feature, i suggest you contact apple support about turning off this feature.

    thank,

    hi bill,

    thanks for your clarification.

i reproduced the scenario. if i send a meeting request to the office 365 user from *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, i will receive an .ics file and the sender’s email address will become *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. it’s not easy to add this item to our office 365 calendar.

then when i sign out of the icloud.com account and sign in to apple mail app with an outlook.com account, the issue disappears. when i click “accept” button, the calendar item will be added to the office 365 calendar immediately. the sender’s email address will not be changed.

after doing a lot of search and tests, i find if icloud.com sends or receives an email which includes a calendar item, the icloud server can recognize this email, then change it to an. ics file.

it’s not feasible to change it on office 365 side.

as a workaround, i recommend you let your wife add outlook.com to the apple mail app. it will not affect the email delivery of the icloud account.
