I tried to add a hyperlink to a word. I paste a http link that is 4 lines long. I click OK and check the link and it is cut off.

This happens in word and excel. Why limit the length of hyperlink? there are many links that are just long and can not be shorter.

While I can't promise that Microsoft will act on any given suggestion, I guarantee you're not going to get a better product if you don't report the bugs you find.

what do you mean with "manually edit the field"? I copy and paste the hyperlink and it cuts off.

It's true that using the Hyperlink dialog box imposes a limit on the number of characters, but if you manually edit the field, the hyperlink can actually be any length.

I filed a bug report as well, there's no good reason for this to be necessary.

It appears that there is a 255 character limitation in the Preview software. Whether that restriction will remain in the final release I have no idea.

Please use the Smiley @ the right end of a document title bar to report your finding.

Please double-check that your hyperlink doesn't contain spaces or illegal characters. As an example, Word does not support the pound character (#) in a hyperlink.

I also have a workaround that Jay Freedman originally mentioned: Create the hyperlink, then right-click on it and choose Toggle Field Codes. The truncated hyperlink will display. Go back to your browser and in the address bar, select the portion of the address that was cut off. Copy it.

Back in Word, click at the end of the hyperlink but before the double quotes. Paste in the remainder of the link. Right-click and choose Toggle Field Codes again to revert to the normal hyperlink display.

Finally, in Word, click on the smiley face in the upper right corner of the Word window, choose Tell Us What Can Be Better and file a bug report.
