Anyone know how to do this.  Do I need to simply drag each application to the trash and empty or is there an uninstall utility I am missing.

  1. My suggestion remove that folder to trash (noting the location) and put in Trash.
  2. Then try computer.
  3. If computer works fine (your Office 2011 install works okay), then you have two options:

a) Empty Trash

b) Move out of Trash

C) Select Folder

d) temporarily and hold down Control key and Choose

The computer will create an zip archive

of the folder.

e) Now move folder back to trash and empty

f)  Now move the zip archive to somewhere

for backup in case you want to Try again

    at later date.

The link (https://support.office.com/en-us/article/How-to-install-or-uninstall-Office-2016-for-Mac-Preview-39472eb3-c5cc-41ac-af3f-9db7c7f5fe36) is broken again. I'm not sure if this is because the Preview is done and Office 2016 for Mac has launched, but searching for the "uninstall Office 2016 Mac" returns that same link, which goes to a 404.

Yep it's Broken and When you type in Uninstall Office 2016 the first  topic How to uninstall/install Office 2016 come back to the very link with the 404 error.

If you want to just remove and not restore follow these Steps:

(Make sure there are not Templates, or Macro you created you want are saved as copies to a new location.)

  • Open Applications folder (Double-click on Hard Drive and locate Applications Folder).
  • Next Locate the individual applications:

Excel 2016 (or without 2016)

Word

PowerPoint

Outlook

OneNote

  • Now Office 2016 is uninstalled.

If you will never  use again your Done. If you want to Restore Continue with following steps

  • From Finder click on the Go Menu and click and Hold.
  • Now click option key then scroll down to the copy of Library that just appeared and Click.

This takes you into User Library.

  • Click on Folder Named Containers.
  • Locate  any folders The MicroSoft or items such as Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OutLook. Etc.

Move those files to Trash.

  • Now Reinstall Office

The install will now be Pristine. If you had any odd issues that may have gotten rid of them.

As Phillip said, you can delete the Group Containers. Doing so gets rid of all your email, contacts, mail attachments, tasks, and calendar information that was saved by Outlook. You might want to explore those folders before you delete them to make sure there ins't something there you want to keep.

This however does not remove support files created for Office 2016, especially the duplicated user data for Outlook. I have found a huge folder in my Library called Group Containers that contains an Office folder created on the same date as my Office 2016 Preview installation. Can this be removed? Can you please provide a detailed support files removal list and location? It appears that my hard drive space had been reduced by nearly the same amount as my Office 2011 Identity folder.

    Thanks!
