IDFix utility found duplicates

I am in the process of implementing a move to Office 365 using a Hybrid solution.

I ran the IdFix utility and it returned duplicate mailnicknames attribute errors.

The duplicates are for users in different domains within my single forest.

For example, I have two users with a mailnickname of 'abrown'. One user lives in domainA with a unique UPN and email address, and the other user lives in domainB with a unique UPN and email address.

I am also running into the issue of duplicates regarding distribution groups. The mailnickname of the distribution group matches the sAMAccountName. I believe this is by default.

For example, I have a mail distribution group called 'Accounting'. IdFix is giving me the error that it is a duplicate because 'Accounting' is the sAMAccountName as well as the mailnickname.

When you create a new distribution group the sAMAccountName and the mailnickname are the same by default.

Can someone explain how I should deal with these types of errors?

Thank you in advance

Hi Damon,

For this situation, I suggest you update the object with different mailnicknames.

Please refer to:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2857385

If the users have the same prefix, there could cause issues when/after syncing the users to the cloud.

Thanks,

Franky
