Default Text Box not saving Wrap Text to Shape

Hello, everyone!

We're having a bit of trouble setting a default text box in PowerPoint.

Opened in the Parent Master, we're adding in a text box (NOT a placeholder), and setting it to Do not Autofit with Wrap text in shape selected (see image below), then saving it as a Default Text Box.

Now, when we go to insert a textbox onto a blank slide in Normal View, sometimes Wrap text in shape works and sometimes it doesn't.

I've figured out the difference is if you insert your text box by clicking on the slide and dragging it to the size you want, it works. If you just click on the slide without dragging it to a custom size (so it opens it to the default size), it doesn'twork.

Is this because you need to set a specific size for Wrap text in shapeto work? Does it not just automatically work with the default text box size? Why is this? We've never really noticed it before and we're not sure if it's a recent glitch or if PPT has always done this.

Finally, do any of you lovely people know how to set it to ALWAYS Wrap text in shape, regardless of how you insert the text box onto the slide?

Thanks so much pals, I hope you're all having a great time leading up to the holidays!

    Hi Steph,

To clarify the issue, I’d like you to provide and confirm the following.

    1. A full screenshot of the Account page via File>Account.

    2. In the second screenshot, I noticed that the Wrap text in shape checkbox isn’t checked, so maybe the issue occurs. Generally, the checkbox is checked by default. If you check it again and do a test in a new slide, what’s the outcome?

Moreover, you can also change Do not Autofit to Resize shape to fit text in advance and then insert words to check the outcome.

For your reference: Set text direction and position in a text box or shape

    Thanks,

    Cliff

I can reproduce your results. I would declare it a bug outright, except that every other version of PowerPoint does the exact same thing. In Windows, I checked 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016, on a Mac I tested 2008, 2011 and 2016. In all of them, checking the text wrap option, then setting the Default Text Box (Default AutoShape in 2003) sets a default text box if you drag when creating. Clicking when creating always removes the wrap parameter. Sorry, there's no way to set it permanently for click-produced text boxes.

In 2016 at least a click textbox will only hold one character so it might not be sensible to set wrap text?
