missing navigation on SharePoint document centre after making document library homepage

hello,

i recently made my document libraries the home pages for their respective sites. since doing that, i've lost the folder navigation feature.

so in the screenshot below, i have a site called marketing and in that site i have a folder called awards. when i'm in the awards folder, it does not actually display that i'm in the awards folder. the red circle in the screenshot below indicates where i should see "awards" and be able to navigate from. is there a way to fix this?

hi caitlin

to find the master pages and page layouts setting, we need to turn on custom script. please go to sharepoint admin center> settings. turn on custom script as the following shows.

note: it takes about 24 hours for the change to take effect.

if the issue persists, i’d like to collect the following information:

  1. a screenshot of your permission on the site level.

to check the permission on the site level, please follow the steps below:

click gear in the right upper corner > site settings, in the users and permissions section, click site permissions. in the new page, click check permission in the ribbon, input the user’s name and click check now.

note: to upload screenshots, please click use rich formatting in this thread and select the insert/edit media icon.

  1. a screenshot regarding “the only options i have are site columns ad site content types”.

regards.

spike

Apologies for the delay in reply. I don't get email notifications for these posts for some reason. I'm going to try this today and will get back to you tomorrow. :)

Thank you so much Spike for a detailed rely. I'm stuck on trying to access "Master pages and page layouts". The only options I have are site columns ad site content types under the web designer galleries listing. Any suggestions on how to find the master pages? I've tried my admin login, made sure i'm  the top level (also tried it from each sub site's settings) but it's not there :(

    hi caitlin

if we set a document library as the home page of a site collection, it will use the site collection title instead of the document library name in navigation bar. that’s why the folder navigation disappears. in this situation, you may refer to sharepoint 2013 folder navigation for list view webpart to add the basic breadcrumb navigation for a library.

the below are the detailed steps:

    1. download the javascript in the above site, and release the foldernavigation.js.
    2. go to the site collection > site settings > under web designer galleries, click master pages and page layouts.
    3. from the ‘new document’ ribbon try adding ’javascript display template’ and then upload the foldernavigation.js file and set properties as shown below:

    1. go to the library page >   click gear in the right corner > edit page.

     5. on the web part ribbon > web part properties > on the right, miscellaneous > for js link, paste the following link > ok.

    ~sitecollection/_catalogs/masterpage/foldernavigation.js

     6. on the page ribbon > stop editing.

    regards,

    spike
