Database won't allow multiple users

Hi - I am having a real problem with a database I have created on a shared network. I have checked that the client settings are set to Default open mode "shared" and I have split the database to a FE and BE and nothing works!!!

It is designed with data coming from a linked csv file (because the data is updated every day).

The users enter search criteria into a form, then run a report from a button on the form which uses a macro to open the relevant report.

The report is run from a query where the criteria is set to be the value of the fields on the form.

It works fine if I am the only one using it but the minute someone else opens the database and tries to run a report they get the following errors:

"The Microsoft Access database engine cannot open or write to the file "", .It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view and write its data."

If you click OK users then get an error message saying:

Macro Single Step - Stop All Macros

Action name: OpenReport

Error Number: 2950

If users decide to stop all macros nothing works at all!!

I am quite new to access but have completely lost heart as this has taken me hours and now seems even less useful than excel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if a user or users has their Client Settings set to Default open mode Exclusive thus blocking everyone else's access.

Each user has a Trusted Location defined for their local copy of the FE?

Also, what type of server are we dealing with?  Is it a NAS by any chance?  I've seen all sorts of headaches with NAS.

Thanks - I have done that, they could delete the file.

Is there anything else that would stop this lock file on the BE??

Have a user attempt to create a simple text file in the folder containing the back-end file. Then have someone try to delete the simple text file.

If this fails, then the users don't have adequate permissions.

Hi - sorry this has taken me a few days to find out the info, this is the information on the permissions for the location of my BE database - these seem to be sufficient - is there anything else that would stop the lock file being created?

    Many thanks

"all staff have the following permissions to the folder: Modify, Read and Execute, List folder contents, Read and lastly Write.

Then for files inside of the folder, staff have the following permissions: List, Read, Write and Delete."
