Excel 365 Can't scroll when formula is selected.

I'm trying to add additional cells to my formulas on the right under "key" but can't scroll down to select the new cell.  Using the mouse; it just doesn't work at all.  Using the scroll bar; it goes down so far but not even to the end of my entries.

I have tried:

  1. Scroll Lock - on and off, no difference
  2. Zoom on Roll - on and off, no difference (mouse type is old (5+ years) Logitech M185 wireless mouse, no fancy features)
  3. Selected Cell and pressed F2 - no difference
  4. Edit Directly In Cells - on and off, no difference

Windows 10 PC

All Updates are Current

All Drivers are Current

Problem exists with every spreadsheet, new and old.

As a professional who uses Excel constantly, having this type of issue affects efficiency, workflow, time management and many other areas.  I do not have time to go through all the "Options" and forums upon forums to figure this out.  It worked fine in Excel 2003 but now that I'm using 365 there are so many little things like this that I actually want to go back to an unsupported and almost non-functioning (with Windows 10) program.

Does anyone have a solution that I have not tried?  Your help is appreciated.

    Hi,

Scrolling your Excel spreadsheet is possible when a formula is selected. See the screenshot below. If the cursor is within the formula itself, you'll be able to use the scroll function. Based on the screenshot that you've provided, the cursor is within the Formula Field, making the scrolling function disabled. The Excel application is detecting an action that's in process, hence the issue.

Should you have any other concern, don't hesitate to post back.

Thank you for that but my cursor is in the formula line and it does not work.  I do not show the same areas as your Excel like your line below, we might be using different versions.  Any other ideas?

Thanks for the follow up regarding your concern. Let's clarify the information that we've stated above. The Formula Field is the one with the arrow sign. If the cursor is on the Formula Field, the scrolling function is disabled.

You can scroll the spreadsheet if the cursor is in the formula itself. Based on the screenshot that we've provided, we've circled the formula of L18 cell. It shows the formula since it's being highlighted. It will also show on your Excel spreadsheet once you select a certain cell which contains a formula. If the cursor is in the formula and not on the Formula Field, then you can use the scroll function.

Hope the above information helps. Keep us posted on the status of the issue and we'll be glad to assist you further.

Yes, I saw the green cursor the first time around, thank you.

As you can see I've selected cell I-2 and my cursor is in the formula field.  Based on your reply the problem then is that Excel no longer has the capability to scroll when you're in the formula field is that correct?

Why would this version of Excel disable scrolling in the formula field when all prior version I've used had no issue with scrolling when that field is selected?  This was an efficient function of the program that is causing efficiency issues.

More importantly, how do I fix it so I can do my work?  You've not offered any solutions but the explanation was informative.

Indeed, previous versions of Excel can use the scroll feature, if the cursor is within the Formula Field. As an option, you can use the scroll bar by dragging it up and down to navigate your Excel spreadsheet instead. The up and down arrow will also work if the cursor is in the Formula Field.
