Font size keeps changing in Excel

I have a spreadsheet where half of some cells are formatted to be font size 7 regular, the other half font 7 bold.. Its all OK until I close the spreadsheet and reopen it. Then half the cell (BOLD) changes to font 10, whilst the other half keeps the font 7. However I save this it keeps doing the same. This only happens when I open the file from the desktop (shortcut). If I open Excel first then open the file from within Excel the fonts keep the original formatting. Very strange? Can anyone explain why the problem happens only when opening the file from the desktop? Can it be solved? I am using Excel 365 2016

    Hi Dave,

To narrow down the issue you have, please provide the information below:

    1. Try to repair Office, does the issue remain?
    2. Does the issue happen to all theme fonts? For example, Calibri/Arial…
    3. Does the issue only happen to font size 7?
    4. Create a new workbook, does the issue happen?
    5. What’s your Office version? You can go to File>Account>Product Information to check it. For example: 1708(8431.2031).

    Thanks,

    Rena

    6. I cant repair as its at my place of work and I need admin permission.
    7. Yes happens all fonts
    8. No other fonts eg 6.
    9. New workbook does the same
    10. Version 1708 (8431.2079)

It doesn't do this in a text box, only in cells where I want to have different fonts in the same cell.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the update. But I can’t reproduce the issue in the same version by my side.

Now we know the information below:

    1.    The issue happens to all font theme.

    2.    The issue only happens to font size 7.

    3.    All the workbooks even the new created one have the same issue.

    4.    The issue is happening in the version 1708 (8431.2079).

    5.    The issue only happens in a cell. Not in text box.

    6.    The issue only happens when you open in shortcut but not from Excel>File>Open.

As you can’t repair the Office, please first try to hold Ctrl to run Excel in safe mode to see the result.

If the issue remains in safe mode, please provide the information for our move investigation:

    1.       When did the issue happen? Was there anything changed before that?

    2.       Please confirm the “desktop shortcut”, do you double click the file to open or do you create a file shortcut then click the shortcut to open the file?

    3.       Please provide a reproduce video about the issue and paste the video link here if it’s convenient for you.

    4.       As repairing the Office can fix some issue, can you contact the admin to help you to repair it to see the result?

    1.       Please confirm if the issue also happens to other Office programs. For example, Word.

    Thanks,

    Rena
