Format Data Label: Label Position

Hi,

I'm using MS Excel 2016 and trying to format data label position to be on top of the bar chart.  However, I can't seem to find the 'Label Position' section.

Hello, 

when you add labels with the + button next to the chart, you can set the label position. 

In a stacked column chart the options look like this:

For a clustered column chart, there is an additional option for "Outside End"

When you select the labels and open the formatting pane, the label position  is in the series format section.

Thanks for your reply, that is also what I'm expecting to see.  However I cannot locate the label position option as you have shown here. I can only see the below:

What chart type are you using? Post a data sample and a screenshot of the chart.

Not all label options are available for all chart types. Looks like you are using an Area chart and with these you cannot set the label position. In your question you mention bars. If you change the chart to a column chart or horizontal bar chart, you will see the label options I showed in my screenshots.

Ohh I see.  I thought regardless of chart format I will be able to adjust label option.  I am using a 3D Column bar chart. I tried to change it to clustered column and I can now see the label options..
