Excel Solver Issue

I use solver for a number of my courses in University and I can't stand this issue anymore.

Every when I use Excel Solver on my Mac, another excel file (that i once used solver in), opens up showing a blank white page. This blank white page doesn't affect the functionality of Solver and I can still input the necessary fields if I just drag the blank excel one side. I really don't appreciate having my screen real-estate being taken up by a blank page and I can only close it if I close the solver window. What's worse, sometimes it completely hangs my excel.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of this?

    Hi Brain,

For this issue, we have reported it to the related team. Once there is any update, we'll get back to you. To benefit other community members who have the same issue, I'd like to share a summary.

    Symptom:

When using Solver on Excel 2016 for Mac, the previously created workbook (the solver was used on that workbook)will open. Solver can work on the newly created workbook and the old workbook can't be closed or modified.

    Workaround:

Quit Excel 2016 for Mac and restart it.

    Assessment:

Our related team is investigating it.

    Regards,

    Felix

    > ... I'm currently using Version 15.37 (170815)

You should be aware that Ver   15.38  has introduced other issues.

Others ( and me) here in the group are reporting that the only option now is "GRG Nonlinear"

I noticed your screen shot has "GRG Nonlinear" also.

I believe it will be awhile before this gets fixed.

Note that there will be a new operating version of the Mac in a few days.

I would recommend a clean install when the new Mac version comes out.

And just be aware of the dozens of fake 'Microsoft' tags that are roaming the newsgroups.

Hi Dana, I've currently updated to Ver 15.39 and my issue relating to the blank window still persists and I believe I am experiencing the same issue as you since my Ver 15.38 update. Just a quick check with you, when you mentioned only "GRG Nonlinear" is available, do you mean to say that the dropdown no longer appears?

If so, I have found a workaround to that issue too, when you click on the dropdown and it doesn't show the list of available solving method, the text "GRG Nonlinear" will be highlighted (as per screenshot) then you just have to press on the downward arrow button on your keyboard until the desired solving methods is selected.

I hope that solves your issue!

Hello.  Thank you .  Good catch!!

Same here. The drop down menu does not work.

However, like you said, if I select it, the up/down arrows work, allowing me to select a different solving method.

Thanks.  Hopefully this will be fixed soon.
