Cannot open HTTPS hyperlinks to PDF documents from Word 2016

Hi,

We are having a strange issue.

I've tried searching, and can see some similar issues, but no real resolutions.

I have narrowed the issue down to:

Windows 10 (Enterprise) 64-bit

MS Office 2016 32-bit (Part of Office 365 E3)

Create a Word document, and add a hyperlink to a PDF file hosted using HTTPS (e.g. https://domain.com/document.pdf)

If the link is http, it works.

If the link is to a normal website, it works.

Only when it is both PDF and HTTPS, it fails.

If I change the https in the hyperlink to http, then the document will open, though it gives this message first:

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks,

Anthony

    Hi Joshua,

Apologies for the delay. I was off site all of yesterday, so have not had a chance to look at my emails.

I will try to locate another environment to test from.

    Thanks,

    Anthony

I know it is not a fix but a clumsy workaround.

Why not just use the http: format instead?

In my experience, my browser automatically uses the https: format when available anyway.

I may have missed it, but if it hasn't been tried...

What happens if you start Word in safe mode?

This is not a fix, but a diagnostic.

    Hi Charles,

I just tried in Safe mode, but still has the same issue.

Using the HTTP option works for some links (though it does pop up a warning message that may put some people off)

There are some sites, however that do not have a http option (or configured in such a way to decline http requests)

I did test quite a number of HTTPS links and then took the S off, and the link worked, and opened IE, but the site itself agave an error (Can't remember the exact error, but it effectively was saying that http was disabled but did not redirect to https)

Further update: I have tested from my home network, and same issue. Cannot open the HTTPS PDF links.
