Microsoft Visual Basic Run-time error `53'

Ever since I recently ran some Microsoft updates for Office on my Mac, I've been receiving the following error message every time I open a Word document. It's not happening with other applications like Excel or Powerpoint. I can still open the documents in Word but I have to click "Abort" first every time.

Microsoft Visual Basic Run-time error `53'

File not found: /Libary/Application Support/Adobe/MACPDFM/MacPDFM.framework/Versions/A/MacPDFM

Abort [button]

Does anyone know how to fix this???

    Hi Franky,

Could you provide a screenshot of your Word client version number?

Besides, you can refer to methylation's solution in this thread File not found error 53 on every startup and quit of MS Word for Mac 2011, 14.6.6.

    "

I had the same problem, and found that it was due to incompatible Adobe Add-in "linkCreation.dotm".

    It is located at:

    ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word

Once you remove the file and re-start Word, no more errors.

    "

    Regards,

    James

If you don't have any Autorun macros that you know of, then you should replace your Normal template, as it would seem to hold a macro that is trying to execute constantly.

    Hi Franky,

Try opening Word, click "Insert" > "Add-ins" > "My Add-ins" > Remove all add-ins such as Acrobat.

    Regards,

    James

In addition to "James" suggestion of removing all plugins. Except for the Adobe Plugin, try adding back what you originally had one at a time.

If adding a particular plugin causes a Crash or an odd operation or action, remove and add the next. If you find a particular plugin that doesn't work right, see if you can another that does the same chore.

As far as the Adobe Plugin, go to Adobe's website look for the plugin and download the very latest version. The issue with the Adobe plugin was only an issue the certain older versions of Office. If you have been keeping up to date (version 15.35 or better), you should not have that issue. When Office was switch over to 64-bit, Adobe forgot to create and send a 64-bit. In Apple Computer the OS is 64-bit. Unlike Windows, the Mac can not tolerate 32-bit plugin and extensions. On windows. They work fine the just slows things down. On Mac 32-Bit extension can cause system crashes Kernal Panics, odd operations of the OS or application they are associated. In other words, there is no tolerance for 32-bit on a 64-bit System or Application.
