Sorting data - number/text problem

I changed formats of all cells in a column to a Text, but it stays sorted as number :( How to sort it as a text, please?

Example:

78
175
205
493
515
582
1171

sorted as numbers, although format is Text

Microsoft 365 and Office | Excel | For home | Windows

Hi Procházka,

Thanks for getting back to us. 

As you already have input the raw data formatted as Number, we would like to suggest using helper columns. Please insert a column near the current column you would like to sort alphabetically, pick the first cell and input for example =TEXT(A3, "###"), drag down to the bottom of the entire column, then sort A to Z, and select Expand the selection in the below window.

    Nah, those are  Czech letters. I have Czech localization. How is the TEXT function localized into Czech, please?

    Hi Procházka Miloš,

    The TEXT function does have a localization difference, I see the letters in your name are Spanish, this is the TEXT function description in Spanish: TEXTO (función TEXTO). It actually spells as TEXTO in Spanish.

    If Spanish is not the language you need, I would love to recommend to you other languages of the same function in Excel. Just post back if you need.

    Actually, my exel doesnt offer function =TEXT. I guess thats because of localization of function keywords, there is some wacky translation that Im unable to find...

    Thanks for advice. I believe that in older versions if cells were formatted as text, they sorted as a text. I wonder if this change actually helped someone...
