External User Cannot Export into Excel

Hello,

I have an external user who has struggled to access Sharepoint for months since she was granted access to the site, though no mistake of her own that we can find.  We currently have been able to get her access to the site once again, but she still cannot export list data into Excel.  Any mistake on her part has been ruled out, and she has the same permission settings as other external users in her organization who are able to export to Excel. When she tries to export into excel, she now receives the following message:

:

This user's job requires her to export this list into Excel.  We have been working for months with Microsoft to correct this error, and have not had any luck yet.  We are currently having to use crude and time wasting workaround maneuvers to help her have access to the site and list while we wait for a resolution.  The link to the last time we reached out can be found here:  https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/external-sharepoint-user-cannot-export-into-excel/cc1aa6c8-452d-41e0-8107-8470bb6cabba  Is there anything else we can try or any any further information we can provide to help find an answer?  Thank you for your help.

    Hi JBSFM,

May I know if the external user can export the content from SharePoint list now? Feel free to post back and let us know the update.

    Regards,

    Eli

Thank you for the help, I will pass that on to my user and see if that resolves the issue.

I know that this user's job requires them to sign into different accounts under their organization.  Some days they are signed into the account associated with their general department email address, and other days they are logged in under their individual work email address.  Will this interfere with them signing into different accounts at different times?  All other members of their department are able to log into both accounts on the same device and still export into Excel, but I would like to make sure this will not further disrupt their own procedures.

    Hi JBSFM,

    Thank you for writing back.

From the error message, it seems to be related to the settings of the external user's organization. Since we click "Export to Excel" and Excel need to connect SharePoint Service, the user should see a window like the following figure when he/she first connect to the SharePoint Service from Excel.

It prevents the user from adding his device to the organization. For the detailed information , please refer toMDM enrollment of Windows.

Given the situation, you could let the user select "The app only" or uncheck the option "Allow my organization to manage my device" and choose Yes to see if it avoid this error.

    Regards,

    Eli

Thank you for the reply, I apologize the error message was not available.  It should be uploaded now.

This happens only for this user, but on every list on the subsite they have access to.  They are using Chrome, and have tried exporting the lists from several different computers.  At each one, they are able to access the lists and libraries of the site, but cannot export lists into Excel.  We are resorting now to sending them emails with HTML tables that contain the lists' data using flow so that they have something exportable, but this is not an ideal or long term solution.  Is there anything else we can try to fix this?  Thank you for your help.

    Hi JBSFM,

Your screenshot isn't visible. We suggest you use the button "Insert Image" to upload the picture.

Regarding the external user, we would like to confirm the following information to better understand this issue:

1.Can the external user not use Export to Excel feature in the certain list?

2.If you create a new list in the site, can the user export data correctly?

3.Some browsers or environment settings might prevent users from launching or extract data to local disk. So could you help check if you can or the external user can use another fine external user's device to export data  with his account?

4.Please share the error message prompt with us.

The above questions can help us confirm the scope in account, list or user's environment to investigate it.

    Regards,

    Eli
