Hi support team,

My excel 2003 file with macro cannot run on excel 365 for business. I do enable macro on excel 365 but worksheet window is backlit and an error "excel cannot open two workbooks with the same name at the same time" occur when I run the macro. My 2003 macro file works well with excel 2010.

Thanks,

Nguyen

    Hi ntnguyen01,

Thanks for sharing update with us.

To check issue is related to compatibility please go to open Excel file and hit File> info> under inspect workbook drop down>click check compatibility and see whether there have any error message in dialog box.

Meanwhile, could you please help us to narrow down your issue is related to specific macro in this problematic workbook, could you please try to create new Excel 97-2003 .xls format workbook and insert other macro and see you can run in Excel of Office 365 pro plus on windows.  If you can successfully run other macro in Office 365 Excel workbook, we will help you to move your thread to programming category to narrow down your issue.

    Best Regards,

    Waqas Muhammad

According to your description your provided, we assume you are using windows Office 365, we would like to suggest you please try below and see if you can run or open Excel file in Office 365 for business.

1.Firstly open Excel in safe mode and see you can open without error, here is article how to open Office 365 in safe mode for your reference: Open Office apps in safe mode on a Windows PC

2.Open Excel file hit File> option > In the dialog box select Trust Center and hit on Trust center settings.

3.Select Protected view on the left, uncheck allthe options in the Protected View section and select OK.

If you still cannot open Excel file change the format Excel file and see the result, to do that open Excel file hit File> Click on Saveon the left and in the Save files in this format drop down box, select Excel 97-2003 . xls format workbook .

If the issue still exists, could you please provide the following information?

    1. My Office version is Office365 Proplus
    2. Screenshot of error message attached
    3. Format of the document is .xls _Microsoft Excel 97-2003 Worksheet
    4. Other Excel 97-2003 workbooks can be opened without any error, only this macro file cannot be run on my current office 365. Please note that macro file works well with Office 2010.

    Hi Waquas Muhammad,

Sorry for delay response. I cannot check compatibility of the file because this function is backlit as below screenshot.

I also do not have any PC is installed original office 97-2003 to create a truly 97-2003 file. I tried the file with office 2019 and it worked. Maybe there is setting in my office that prevent this macro from running. What I don't know is that other files with macro still can run with my computer.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Nguyen
