Excel will not display currency in spreadsheet

When I format a cell as currency (using UK £), the cell goes blank.  The value is still displayed in the Formula Bar but not in the cell.

However, if the amount is negative e.g. -£1,000, it does display in the cell.

    Thanks for all the help.

I rolled back to build #16.32 which has solved the problem for the time being.

I will wait and see what #16.34 brings.

Happy New Year to you all.

    Hello Nick

I am V. Arya, Independent Advisor, to work with you on this issue. Please check if there is any custom format applied on the cells which is overriding. If yes, that needs to be cleared.

I have contacted Microsoft Support who have remotely looked at my computer and could reproduce the problem but not fix it.  This is not specific to my iMac as it happens on my MacBook.  It happens if I open a new spreadsheet and just convert any number to a currency.  If it is a negative amount, it displays.  I am using version 16.33 (19122502).

    To NickLinker,

Thanks for reaching out. This is Gems88 an Independent Advisor. I'd be more than happy to help you.

Did you have any formulas or VBA code that forces to hide the currency on that cell?

If there is not, I suggest that you need to update your excel application. Just go to this link at the official site

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/update...

After you update your excel application, format again the cell.

    Regards,

    Gems88

Thanks for your input.  However, this happens on more than one computer.  My MacBook is new with a fresh install of Office 365.  Even if I open a new workbook, just type in some numbers (which appear in the cell) and then format the cell as currency, when I press enter, the numbers disappear (although they are still visible in the formula bar).
