word cannot open the file because the file format does not match the file extension

    Could you tell us the latest progress about this issue?

    If you still have a copy of the AutoRecovery My File.docx document or you can still find it from the ~/Library/Containers/com.Microsoft/Data/Library/Preferences/AutoRecovery folder, I would like to suggest you refer to this thread: Autorecover file from word won't open. Try the suggestion provided by Richard to see the results.

    *Remember to make multiple copies of this AutoRecovery file.

    If you have already got the repaired document from Doug, please let us know.
