    Hi PAULAMASTRIANNA

The actions on your function keys (F1 - F12) is controlled by a utility installed by the manufacturer of your PC, try pressing the Fn key + F2, does that produce the required action?

If so, what is the Make and exact Model No. of your PC - that will be printed on a sticker on the bottom casing and I will check of there is a way to turn off the Fn key requirement . . .

Sometines, that can be turned off by pressing Fn + Esc or if there is a Fn Lock key . . .

You should be able to tap the Fn key (located between the left Ctrl key and the Windows key - see image below) and the Esc key (top-left corner of the keyboard) together to activate the function keys to act as F1 through F12 instead of laptop BIOS functions (e.g. volume, brightness, etc) or extended keyboard keys (e.g. Home, End, PgUp, PgDn, etc).

TBH, every laptop is a little different. Even laptop models within the same manufacturer or the same models from different years. Search for "Dell Inspiron 17 3000 toggle fn on off" if the above method does not work.

Hi Dave - yes pressing the Fn + F2 does work BUT I want it to be a permanent fix and not have to do that every time.

Make and model of laptop is:

    Dell Inspiron 17 3000

    Intel cor i5

    Is that enough info?

    Thanks

    Paula
