Copy and Paste Formatting

Hi there!

Recently (past few months) in MS Word when I ctrl v it does not paste as what I have set the formatting as. I have it set in my settings to paste everything as "keep text only" but it still pastes it as "keep source formatting." It also does not pop up the little box that lets me change the paste type like it used to.

I have gone in and changed the settings countless times. I even tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling it. Nothing works! I just want what I copy to paste as I have formatted. It used to do this no problem, then one day it just stopped. I am not sure if I am doing anything wrong but I have it set up on advanced options to paste how I would like. I am in school right now and it is such a pain for it to paste as source formatting when I need to keep things APA formatted.

If anyone knows what I can do to help fix this that would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. This is Office 365 provided by the school if that helps!

    Hi  shelb030,

I go through the post carefully. it seems that you paste with CTRL+V, however, the paste result ignore paste settings in Option>Advanced settings. And you don’t get the paste options button.

You may disable the paste options button that causes the default CTRL + V paste setting doesn’t work either. Please try steps below and check if it works. For more information: Control the formatting when you paste text :

    1. Go to File > Options > Advanced.
    2. In the Cut, copy, and paste section, select Show Paste Options button when content is pasted.
    3. Select OK.

If suggestion above doesn’t help, could you please share information below with us for further troubleshooting?

    1. What is your Office version build? You may check it in File>Account.
    2. Does the issue happens on all documents?

    Regards,

    Clark

    Hi Clark,

    My version is 2006, build 13001.20266 Click-to-Run.

I tried that, where  I clicked on the box to show paste options. It will work after I have done it and paste correctly, but the minute I close out and go into Word again, it stops.

So I would basically have to open up paste options every time I open up word to get it to work properly.

I think that you meant 2016 rather than 2006.

Aside from that, if you have something on the clipboard that you want to paste into Word, if you right click when you have the selection in the desired location, you will see a number of Paste Options, depending upon what it is on the clipboard

    Hi shelb030,

Thanks for your updates, does settings there reset itself if you restart Word? If so, I would suggest you preform Office online repair that uses the Windows Installer to correct problems with missing files and to repair registry settings. Please quit all Office programs. Follow the article: Repair an Office application to repair Office, restart your PC and check the result.

Besides, when pasting, you may also select paste option from Home Tab, as you can see in screenshot below:

    Hope these can help.

    Regards,

    Clark

I am pretty certain this says "2006" and not "2016" :)

And while yes,  I can right-click to paste but I feel I should also be able to hit ctrl v and get the same result.
