Copy and Paste Formatting

Hi there!

Recently (past few months) in MS Word when I ctrl v it does not paste as what I have set the formatting as. I have it set in my settings to paste everything as "keep text only" but it still pastes it as "keep source formatting." It also does not pop up the little box that lets me change the paste type like it used to.

I have gone in and changed the settings countless times. I even tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling it. Nothing works! I just want what I copy to paste as I have formatted. It used to do this no problem, then one day it just stopped. I am not sure if I am doing anything wrong but I have it set up on advanced options to paste how I would like. I am in school right now and it is such a pain for it to paste as source formatting when I need to keep things APA formatted.

If anyone knows what I can do to help fix this that would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. This is Office 365 provided by the school if that helps!

    Hi Clark,

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, even with following those steps, it does not work.

If I do not go into the copy/paste setting EVERY time I open I word document it does not paste correctly using control v. It also does not save the selection to provide the paste options either. I have to click that box every time I open a new word document.

I can click on the paste at the top and select "keep text only" and it does work, same with right-clicking. But when I am writing a paper on my laptop it is honestly just easier to use the short cut keys.

I think my biggest thing is it did not always act like this. I used to set the settings, and when I did control paste it did not with no problems. It stuck every time I opened a word document and then all of a sudden it stopped working properly.

I am not sure what else I can do besides just remembering to open up the paste options every time I use word so that it works properly.

    Hi shelb030,

Thanks for the updates. it seems that the options doesn’t work after you open a new word document. I would suggest you remove the normal.dotm and check if it works, this will reset setting to default when you create a new document. please check the article: Change the Normal template (Normal.dotm )

Additionally, you may also try uninstalling Office completely and reinstall it and check if it works. you may use Office uninstall support tool to uninstall Office completely. You may download it from the link: How to uninstall Office automatically

If these doesn’t work, do you use any macros or add-ins in Word?

    Regards,

    Clark
