Thanks for your help, I will try Microsoft support directly. One additional comment and image. My colleague, who has Office 365, gets his Word document directly once he clicks 'Open in Desktop App.' I get the following extra little window shown below.
Sharepoint feature 'Open in Desktop App'
I am unable to open a Word document from a team SharePoint folder using 'Open in Desktop App' on my own PC which is running Windows 10 and Office 2019. A window opens that says 'https://word-edit.officeapps.com want to open this application.' When I click Open, I am directed to Sign In.
If I use my business email address, it does not recognize my password.
If I use my personnel email, it does not even go to the password window but reverts back to Sign In.
An associate who is running Office 365 instead of Office 2019 does not have this problem.

2020-03-25T08:58:52+00:00 Hi Mike,
Jups, thats normal behaviour, and it should not be a problem, could you verify that your office is signed in with your work account:

2020-03-25T16:20:12+00:00 My client has their SharePoint set up with ‘Open Documents in Client Applications by Default’ set to Inactive which explains why I cannot open Word through Office 2019 on my desktop. Since the client is reluctant to change the setting for one user, I am considering this issue closed.

2020-03-25T09:57:57+00:00 Hi Mike,
You can try the options below to check the outcome:
Option 1. Re-sign into the Office applications.
a. Open one of the Office applications>File>Account>Switch account>re-enter your work/school account.
b. Navigate to the library of documents, click "…">Open in Word.
Option 2.Remove credentials of Office applications.
a. Open one of the Office applications>File>Account>Sign out.
b. Open Control Panel>Credential Manager>remove Microsoft related credentials in both Web CredentialsandWindows credentials.
c. Restart your computer.
d. Sign into one of the Office applications.
e. See if you can open documents from SharePoint with Office desktop applications.
Option 3.Online repair the Office suite. (For Windows)
Also, please try to change setting "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" in SharePoint online via go to settings in library settings>Advanced Settings>Opening Documents in the Browser to Open in the client application and see the outcomes.
If the issue persists, I'd like to confirm the following things:
- Do Office applications work well with local files?
- Open Word>File>Account>capture a screenshot of Product Information.
- Does the issue happen to all SharePoint document libraries or some specific library?
Your understanding and time will be highly appreciated.
Best Regards,
Waqas Muhammad
