In Excel under office 365, with current updates installed:

clicked File

clicked Options

clicked Add-ins.

clicked power pivot under "inactive application add-ins"

clicked "go" - PowerPivot was not listed.

Browsed to the dll in program files.

put the dll file path and name in the file name box,

clicked open and got "<path>\Microsoft.Office.PowerPivot.ExcelAddin.dll" is not a valid add-in

How can I install the powerpivot addin?

    Jen:

I stepped through the registry edits with no problem.

I went back through the Add-in installation process as before and got precisely the same result.

The dll was reported as invalid.

I can show you screen shots if that would help.

I remember back in the day, one had to register a dll. does the installation process do the registration (or equivalent) or dose that happen separately?

    Jen:

I wonder: do I possibly have a broken / corrupt dll file? If so, where can I get a replacement?

    regards,

    Tom

    here you go

Note in the first picture that I accidentally touched a file with acrobat and the !!@#$% system assigned adobe as the default application and I can't seem to break the link. If you can tell me how to break that association that would be super!
