Bulk Upload of links into SharePoint

Windows 10 / O365 Enterprise / SharePoint Hybrid

I am building a SharePoint intranet site.  We have a document library, in which I am posting links rather than actual content (pdfs, etc.) The links are active connections to our document management application and ensure that the end users get to most current version of the controlled document.  There are 1000+ documents in the doc mngt app and the administrator captured every single link into an Excel document.  Is there a way to mass upload the links into the Sharepoint Library from the Excel document?

    Hi Cindy,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community, I'm glad to offer help.

According to your description, I'd like to suggest you create a new list based on your workbook instead of creating links in the document library, it will import all the items form Excel to the list at one time, here are the steps:

    1.    Make sure you have formatted the data as a table in Excel.

    2.    Go to SharePoint Online site > Site contents > click "+New" > select "List" > From Excel > upload your Excel workbook and import the data.

However, there is a small flaw that this method can save a lot of time and effort, but the column type of the "URL" cannot be set or modified to "Hyperlink type", which will result in the links cannot be opened directly, you may need to manually copy the link to the address bar to open it.

Hope the above suggestion can be helpful, please feel free to let me know if you have any concerns, I'll continue to help you.

    Best Regards,

    Arck

Hi - thanks for the reply and the detailed instructions ...  Unfortunately, the links need to be active / clickable.  End User group finicky about the number of actions required to obtain information/content. (less clicks/actions = better)  Therefore - if I am reading the response correctly - to have active links....it is required to touch and add each link one by one, as there is not a method to bulk upload active links into SharePoint.  Please confirm if this is correct (though my fingers are crossed that I am wrong and there is indeed another way of bulk uploading active links without touching them one at a time).  Thanks again.

    Hi Cindy,

Thanks for your quick response, after further attempts, I think we may found a perfect solution:

**1.**Create a table with required columns in Access, please make sure the "URL" column is set as "Hyperlink" type in Access, and please note to prefix the address with "https://"

    2.    Move data from Excel to Access.

    3.    Connect the current Access table to a new SharePoint list.

    4.    Links will be clickable in the new list created by Access.

Hope it can help, please keep me informed if you encounter any problems.

    Best Regards,

    Arck
