    Hi rohitkhn!

I'm Jen, an independent advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.

Kindly check if there are linked excel files within the file you're trying to open that need relinking or removing. Also, it could be that the file path is too long. You could also try disabling your add-ins and see if it helps resolve the issue. Let me know if any of these suggestions work for you.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'd be glad to assist you further.

    Best Regards!

    Jen :)

    Hi Jen,

    Thanks for your suggestions!

I am only getting this error when opening the Excel application (not when I open any file). Also, the files I am opening in Excel, are opening in read-only mode by default (not sure why).

    Regards,

    Rohit

    Hi Rohit,

Looks like it's looking for an add-in that's already been removed. Go to the file path that Excel thinks the add-in should be located in and the name of the add-in file. Then, follow the steps in this link. Let me know if this works.

    Hi Jen,

I did what is mentioned in that link. However, considering the extension of file that Excel is looking for is .dll, I am getting the below message now.

    Hi Rohit,

Did you change the file extension to .xlam or .xla?
