Duplicate a Microsoft List with content/data?

Hello,

With the new Mircosoft Lists, I see that we can create a template based on an existing List. When we create a new List based off of the template, we get the same formatting and column headings. That is great.

However, we would like to be able to duplicate an entire List, including the content/data.

How can one duplicate a Microsoft List including the data?

    Hi Sammatz,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community, I'm glad to offer help.

To copy a list including the list contents, you can follow the following steps:

    1. Open the source list > Export to Excel.
    2. Open the exported *.iqy file > import it as a table > save the workbook as *.xlsx file.
    3. Go to Microsoft Lists > New list > From Excel > upload the saved workbook (*.xlsx).
    4. Edit the data and create the duplicate list. (You can delete the last two columns ("Item Type" & "Path") after creating the list)

Hope the above suggestion can be helpful, and please feel free to let me know if you have any concerns, I'll continue to help you.

    Best Regards,

    Arck

It works but that access error tells you it's a permissions problem. Sharepoint is so full of unintuitive and pointless permissions gotchas, I'm not sure which one this is, but my guess would be make sure you're at least a site collection admin for the source site. Site owner may not be enough.

I'm already a site collection administrator (and owner):

For those struggling with this issue, I finally resolved it late last night using the guidance provided at the links below. In O365 Sharepoint, there are deny permissions set by default to add and customize pages as shown in the screenshot below.

If you remove this deny permission by following the instructions at the links below, the save as template option is available and the instructions provided a few pages ago by @webbrewers will work to allow duplicating a list with its contents.
