MS word renaming files automatically with some numbers

Hello everyone,

I often encounter the issue of MS word renaming files automatically with some numbers. In order not to lose my files, I have to rename them before shutting down my PC. Please how do I cancel this feature? Any idea?

    Thanks all for your suggestions! I have later found a solution by simply uninstalling OneDrive app from my PC.

    Are you using some backup utility to copy files to OneDrive?

    Or are you saying that the affected documents are being synchronized with OneDrive? They are in the local OneDrive folder?

    This is very strange and I do not think it has been reported before.

    See what happens with documents saved to a non-synchonized location on your hard drive.

    This should not be necessary, but with an important document like a thesis, backups are vital.

    Thanks for posting back the details.

    Share back with the suggestions from MVPs like what happen with a newly-created document saved to local drive. Also, it is recommended to test this in a more clean environment in case the issue is related with any background programs or settings.     Also, to turn off the auto-save feature temporarily, check: Unable to save documents to hard drive - Microsoft Community.

    If the issue persists, try to repair Office app and check the results. Repair an Office application - Office Support (microsoft.com)

    They are both synchronized with OneDrive and saved locally on my PC.
