Hi

We are several users working on the same Word 2019 document on SharePoint. Unfortunately, We have experience a common error where the uploading is failing and Autosave is changing from on to off automatically. It should be mentioned that we have tried to delete the document and make a new document twice where the error have been appeared again.

    Hi Sukie,

Thank you for your guidance. In meanwhile we were able to solve problem by '' accepting changes'' when a correction has been applied to document. But we are going to follow your instruction for the future work.

I would suggest raising the issue in the SharePoint forum as the message that you are receiving indicates that SharePoint has an issue with the number of minor versions of the file.

    Hi Andre Nedaei,

Thank you for querying in this forum.

From your description, it seems that you and your colleagues are using Word 2019 to edit a file which is stored in SharePoint Online at the same time, however, you encountered an error message. And you have tried creating new files, however, the same problem still persists.

May I know if my understanding is right? If so, we have tested it on our side with Word 365 for business, we opened the file from SharePoint Online in Word for 365 directly and we may not encountered the same error message.

For the error message you encountered, we have also searched a lot and we found the related suggestion below may help you:

You can go to SharePoint Document library where you edit the document> Settings > Library Settings > Versioning settings > Document Version History > Create major and minor (draft) versions > select Keep drafts for the following number of major versions.

At the same time, to better understand your situation, could you provide the information below?

    1. May I know if the other types files have the same problem? For example, Excel files.
    2. May I know if the other document libraries have the same problem?
    3. To narrow down this issue, we’d suggest you open the document in Word Online directly instead of opening in Word client to check if the same problem will occur.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie

    Hi Sukie,

Thank you for your beneficial explanation. Regarding the way we use the SharePoint, we are 5 who is working on the same word file. We always use the ''open in app' from SharePoint every time we would like to open the document.

It is totally correct understood that we encountered an error massage that preventing some of us to be able to save In order to solve the problem, we have had created a new word report and hoped for that it did not happened again, However, we unfortunately experience again the same issue. It should be mentioned that the issue appeared after some days and not instantly after creating the Word file.

The suggestion path you sent, it is the same as we have on the system ( attached)

    Answers to you questions.

    1. Just Word so far.
    2. We are a bit new in using SharePoint, I would like to let you know if it does.
    3. By directly, do you mean right click and '' open in ''?, it is what we do now.

    Hi Andre Nedaei,

We appreciate that you posted back and shared the detailed information with us. We also appreciate that you spent your time doing those tests.

Per your description, it seems that you always open document in Word application, and you also tried creating new file, however, the same problem still persists after several days. And this issue only occurs on Word.

If my understanding is right, we also noticed that you have set the right option under Library settings. Given this situation, to narrow down this issue, could you also confirm the information with us?

    1. For your second question, we’d suggest you go to the other SharePoint document libraries in this site to check if the same problem will occur. This will narrow down if this issue is related to specific document library.
    2. We’d suggest you open document in Word online, you can go to SharePoint document library and select the document > Open > Open in browser instead of Open in Desktop app to check if the same error message will occur. This will narrow down if this issue is related to this issue is related to Word application.
    3. At the same time, you mentioned “It should be mentioned that the issue appeared after some days”, it may because several users edited multiple versions during those days, so we’d suggest you go to SharePoint Document library where you edit the document > Settings > Library Settings > Versioning settings > Document Version History > only select Create major versions. Then you can create a new document to check if the same problem will occur.

Thank you for your patience so far.

    Best Regards,

    Sukie
