Can't add attachment to SharePoint list

Receiving the above error message when trying to add an attachment from a shared drive to a particular list. It only seems to be happening on one list. I created a dummy list and added the exact same file from the shared network that was giving me this error message, but for the new dummy list, it added no problem. We even tried downloading the file from the shared network to our local computer and that did not work for the list with the existing issue. Which makes me believe it is not a network issue. Multiple of our users are having this attachment problem.

    Hi MaryRoberts6,

As per your description, it seems issue only occur with specific SharePoint list when you trying to add attachment file from your shared network drive location into list. However, when you download same file from shared network drive location, and you meet same error message as well in the problematic SharePoint list.  May I know if my understanding is correct? If so, based on my test result when I add attachment file form shared network drive and it seems I cannot reproduce issue as you described above. See image below for your reference:

As you mentioned, “but for the new dummy list, it added no problem” for problematic SharePoint list if you are using a list in Modern experience, switch to the classic experience by clicking “Return to classic SharePoint”, then after select the items and click on "Attach file" to check the outcomes.

Meanwhile, if you don’t mind, could you please upload a screenshot of your SharePoint list view including columns name for out reference.

I appreciate your understanding and stay safe!!

    Best Regards

Wasqas, thank you for your willingness to help! You understand correctly. I would prefer not to share a print screen of the list for confidentiality reasons. If there is a legitimate reason for knowing column names, happy to provide what I can, but let me know what value this will add. I do not know what you mean when you refer to the modern or classic experience. Could you provide further information? We are doing nothing different from what we were doing previously before getting the attachment error message. As far as we know, nothing changed and this error came on erroneously. We are following the exact same steps in the new dummy test list and are having no issues. I think it is worth noting that the lists (the dummy list and list with attachment issue) are on the same site.

    Hi MaryRoberts6,

Thanks for sharing updates with us and I really appreciate your effort and your precious time doing those tests.

Please open your SharePoint problematic list>click on “Return to classic SharePoint”, then after select the items and click on "Attach file" to check if you are able to add attachment file in this way. Here is image below for your reference:

I still don't see the option for return to classic SharePoint. We are using SharePoint online, is this only applicable for on premise?
